My fondness for clay runs deep; I worked with it as an art medium for many years. I’m thrilled to now share one of my favorite clays, a White Calcium Bentonite mined from the deserts of Southern Nevada. Bentonite has been used for centuries for detoxifying and deep cleansing benefits. It’s an incredibly versatile and powerful skin care ingredient. Consider it a DIY beauty building block essential. Now go forth and get clean with clay!

RECIPES

Facial Mask – Mix 1 Tb clay with 2 Tb water, apple cider vinegar, or liquid of your choice to form a paste. Apply liberally to face and/or neck, avoid contact with eyes. Leave on for 10 minutes or until dry. Gently remove mask with warm, wet washcloth. Rinse face and towel dry.

Soothing Bath – Add 1-2 cups of clay to bath water along with a few drops of lavender essential oil. Relax for 15-20 minutes in a bath that will leave your skin smooth and refreshed.

Hair Mask – Mix one cup of water or aloe vera juice with 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar. Stir in 1 cup of clay until smooth. Massage into wet hair, starting at the roots. Let sit for 10 -15 minutes (don’t let it dry). Rinse well with water.

Moisturizing Wash – Combine 2 Tb of your favorite liquid Castile soap, 1 Tb clay, and 1 tsp sweet almond oil. Mix to a creamy paste. Wet hands, face or body and apply paste liberally, work in to a lather, rinse well.
